    Hey guys,

A few of us have given Conflict of Nations a try, and so far everyone seems to enjoy it. It's a free browser based game currently in beta (mobile is possible but not supported yet). If you've ever played Axis and Allies, it's kind of like a more complicated version of that. There are 19 players per game, but there seems to be an option to start a game with 26 players as well. It's real time, but not very fast paced - you typically order units to move which depending on the unit could take an hour or many hours, especially if moving long distance. It's possible to check in 2-3 times a day just to order units around and play that way.

    The website is http://www.conflictnations.com

You'll probably know if you like the game within the first 15-30 minutes of playing, and since it's free it's worth taking a quick look. There is an option to pay a fee to have a premium account, which lets you queue more stuff up (and not have to check in as frequently), and you can buy currency to use to heal your troops, get resources, improve morale, etc. It looks like it can definitely be play to win if someone wants to drop hundreds of dollars on the game, but until that happens we all seem to be having fun playing at the free (or almost free) level.

If you decide that you like the game, we're planning on starting up a new game over the weekend at some point, and if we all join within a few minutes we can all play in the same game together. It looks like a full game from start to finish runs for a month or more before someone typically gets enough points to win.

It's pretty fun. Thorgrim, Xaosist and myself are currently playing on a map with a few other players. It is good fun and it is possible to create a game and password protect it if we wanted a private game.

Ok, this Friday (Au/NZ Saturday) I am thinking of setting up a private game where we can experiment with stuff. Lets figure stuff out like, how many infantry are needed to kill a tank, what do all the vehicles do. If I do not sleep in then I should set it up at 5pm EST (11am NZDT, 9am AEST, 2pm PST). Would people like to join it?

Main rule will be no taking of homeland cities from players without their permission.

Let's also all try to get into a game on Saturday. I think Xaosist has the biggest time constraint, so what time works best for you? Next would probably be Aussiedwarf. All we have to do is join shortly after the game is started, we don't even have to play or issue any orders or anything at first (though it may make sense to queue up some research right away).

I've also been playing around with the different types of infantry. I'll continue to do so, but I think that everyone is going to benefit from Special Forces whereas Naval (Marines), Airmobile, and Mechanized all have specialized roles (Special Forces are also specialized, of course, but they're basically just killing machines that you send out in front of the rest of your forces to soften everything up - they can't take territory). Naval seems to be the basic versatile attack (mostly offense, very little defense) unit, even when not dealing with water. Airmobile is more of a drop in place kind of unit - I'm building some now to try them out, but they seem to be very difficult to move around once set in place. Mechanized are designed as Tank support, which is fantastic to use where Tanks are fantastic to use, which is wide open areas and not jungle or even mountains. Of course, there's also the basic Motorized Infantry, which is the basic infantry that balances offense and defense and is good for leaving in cities and forgetting about them, or using them as defensive units in strategic territories.

I'm in as Canada. This game is just for practice, right? I assumed that we'd all be joining a public game tomorrow so hopefully we'll have some enemies to play with.

Sweet. We also have Xaosist as Russia. I have set you 2 as shared intelligence at the moment.

One thing I would like to try is to have us build and match off units. If we all took a city in India, then we would all have the capability to try it out. India is also good as it has plenty of cities and all terrain types except arctic.

Sweet, we have 6 of us. If anyone else wanted to play I think there is still 11 hours that people can join.

I am currently attacking some of the smaller AI nations. I am also going to build enough troops to take a city from india. I have set everyone people to ally so that when I build a airbase, people can fly troops over there.

I'm almost done taking out the US. That's right, there is now a United States of Canada.
Fult and Hunter Of Storms like this.

Excelent! I am making a mobile anti aircraft vehicle. Once that is done I shall head to india. I shall annex and build an airbase as quickly as possible. If people could then send troops in to take a city each, we can then do some experimentation.

Looks like the AI does not like me invading different countries. I have now had 9 countries declare war against me including India (I did this), Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, Spain, Ukraine, Romania, Caribbean States and now Libya. Algeria has been the most active against me so I am focusing my efforts right now to take them out.

Originally I was planning on taking india so we could experiment but I decided to take Sri Lanka first to allow for a staging ground to India. Unfortunately the map broke after a patch and now some harbours and air bases do not work so now my units are stuck on Sri Lanka. Other problem with being at war with so many people is the moral penalty. If more nations declare war I think I'll lose my cities to rebellion.

Apparently Alliance support is going in within the next few weeks.
